Comparison

The Czech alternative to Twilio.

A number, calls, SMS and a voice agent through one API and one MCP server. In Czech koruna, billed per second, no contract and no regulatory paperwork. Your first 50 CZK of credit is on us, no card required.

Twilio prices from the public price list, verified in August 2026. That a Czech Twilio number does either calls or SMS we verified in its API, most recently on 22 October 2026.

The biggest gap is the inbound call: 0.50 CZK/min with us, while Twilio handles it in the Czech Republic through a toll-free line at 6.54 CZK/min. A reception agent that mostly answers the phone runs at a fraction of the cost.

All prices are in Czech koruna (CZK) excluding VAT. Euro amounts are approximate and for orientation only - your card is always charged in CZK.

What's different

Czech koruna, no conversions

No dollar rates and no exchange-rate surprises on your card statement. Every credit top-up comes with a Czech tax invoice; VAT is added only at payment time.

Voice agent included

Write its instructions and it answers your line - with a transcript, summary and recording for every call. On Twilio you assemble a voice agent yourself from audio streams, speech-to-text, synthesis and your own model.

MCP server built in

Claude Code, Cursor or Windsurf buys a number, sends an SMS and builds an agent for you over MCP. Same tools as the REST API, one key.

Czech numbers in stock

Numbers from every Czech region, the 910 range and Slovak Bratislava numbers are bought in one step and work within seconds (Slovak numbers are billed three months upfront). Twilio requires a regulatory bundle with documents for Czech numbers, and it takes approval.

Per second, no strings

We bill by the second, not by rounded-up minutes. Topped-up credit never expires, no contract and no notice period.

Support that speaks Czech

Write to podpora@volai.cz in Czech or English and get an answer in kind. The docs are fully bilingual.

The regulatory bundle Twilio requires for a Czech number has to match the number's city - a Prague number needs proof of a Prague address, a Brno number a Brno one - and businesses prove the address with a registration document, a utility bill or a rent receipt (Twilio's Czech Republic guidelines). None of that is needed with volai - the number is active right after purchase.

When Twilio is the better fit

We won't talk you into a tool that doesn't fit. Twilio makes more sense when you need:

  • More numbers for receiving SMS than the account limits allow, or receiving SMS in other countries - volai receives SMS on an SMS number (a Czech mobile number for SMS only, 390 CZK per 30 days excluding VAT) and on a calls and SMS number (a Prague landline, 49 CZK per 30 days excluding VAT), at most two of each kind per account. volai voice numbers cannot receive SMS, we do not guarantee verification codes from services (banks, Google and similar), and receiving has been verified on the O2 network. SMS sent without your own number go out under the shared sender name SMSinfo, which recipients cannot reply to.
  • Numbers outside the volai offer - volai sells Czech numbers (+420), Slovak Bratislava numbers (+421 2) and numbers in the countries of the current offer, which are for calls only, with no SMS (they call out only to the country of the number and to Czechia); SMS goes to CZ and SK.
  • More channels and global scale - WhatsApp, video, email and compliance tooling for large teams are things volai doesn't have.

Migrating from Twilio

volai is not a Twilio API clone - it's smaller and simpler, so you can't just point the Twilio SDK at a different host. The concepts map one to one, though: a number, a call, a message, a webhook with a signed payload.

The fastest path: hand your AI editor the SKILL.md file or connect our MCP server and let it rewrite the integration. It's a handful of endpoints and the agent sees the whole reference while doing it.

Comparison FAQ

Is volai compatible with the Twilio SDK?
No. volai has its own, much smaller REST API and an MCP server - the integration needs a rewrite, not a re-point. With the SKILL.md reference an AI editor usually handles it for you.
How much do I save compared to Twilio?
Most on inbound calls: 0.50 CZK (~EUR 0.02) per minute versus 6.54 CZK (~EUR 0.27) on Twilio's toll-free line. An SMS is 1.36 CZK versus 1.46 CZK, and a number 25.00 CZK (~EUR 1.04) versus 31.00 CZK (~EUR 1.29) per month. On outbound calls the gap is smaller.
What can Twilio do that volai can't?
More numbers for receiving SMS than the account limits allow, or receiving SMS in other countries (volai has the SMS number, a Czech mobile number for SMS only, and the calls and SMS number, a Prague landline, at most two of each kind per account), phone numbers outside the volai offer (Czech, Slovak with the Bratislava area code only, and numbers in the countries of the current offer, which are for calls only, with no SMS and call out only to the country of the number and to Czechia) and channels like WhatsApp or video. If you need those, stay with Twilio - see the section above.
Do I need a contract or a plan?
No. Sign up with an email, top up credit by card and pay only for what you use. Topped-up credit never expires and we refund the rest on request.
Can my AI agent handle the migration?
Yes, that's exactly what our MCP server and SKILL.md are for - the agent reads the reference, buys a number, sets up the webhook and rewrites the API calls itself.

Try it on a single number

Signup takes a minute and your first 50 CZK of credit is free - that's a number for a month plus a few dozen minutes of calls. Your Twilio account keeps running in the meantime.
